How long have you been writing?

I have been writing since I was 8 years old in third grade. That’s when I was taught cursive and when I wrote my first poem. It blossomed from there. I actually still have my first writings and it’s kind of funny going back and reading what I once wrote.

So, Oracle’s Legacy is your first book? What made you decide to write it?

Oracle’s Legacy is the first book I wrote and published. I was writing another book when the idea popped into my head. A whole lot of ‘what ifs’ hit me at once. I grew up reading Marvel Comics, and I love the idea of humans with powers. But I thought “What if they had a definite beginning?” “What if their origins weren’t a freak of nature?” “What if they knew about their existence since the beginning of time?” And so on and so on… until this story developed into what it is now.

Can you talk more about the development of your main characters?

I could talk all day about my characters. They live rent free in my head. The Oracle is a mixture of conventional wisdom, mothering, and quiet strength. She doesn’t like fighting but she understands how it is necessary.

Ollie, who seems to be most everyone’s favorite, is also one of mine. If I had the guts to be anyone in the world, I would want to be her. She’s brash, loud, intelligent, beautiful, and deadly. She loves those who are important to her, but had little care for anyone or anything else. I like her simply because her unpredictable nature makes her fun to write: anything can happen, and rules of what a person should be don’t apply. Granger is my epitome of what enlightenment should be. I do have a lot of characters in my book and I find that most of them are awesome to me in some way, even the villains.

Fess up. How many hours a day do you write?

Honestly, I can’t count an average. I take a pen and paper everywhere I go. And if I’m in a bind and can’t get to that, I use my phone that has a mini keyboard (its murder on the fingers, but the idea has to come out). But to sit down at my computer and just write… sometimes I can start after dinner in the evening and write well until dawn. Its murder on the eyes and kills my sleep, but that’s when the real magic happens.

What’s up next? Will we see other books soon?

Oh, heck yeah! I actually have ideas piling up on me. Before I started writing Oracle’s Legacy I had five ideas brewing and in the works. Now I have more than ten ideas waiting for my attention. And I can’t wait to get to them.
